Welcome!
Three chairs set around a table Three chairs set around a table

Three chairs symbolize the three companions on the spiritual journey: the Directee, the Spiritual Director and the Holy Spirit. The focus is on listening to what the Spirit is doing in the life of the Directee.

Butterfly Journeys is about my calling as a Spiritual Director in Winnipeg. I love to help people become more deeply aware of the Divine Spirit within.

Different things are important to different people in this category, so I've included a variety of things.

Education:

I have a degree in Theology (B.Th.) and an arts degree (B.A.) and a degree in Christian Ministry (M.A.).

I studied one semester at a seminary in 2016 as part of my M.A. studies.

I have taken two levels of Enneagram courses.

I am certified in Immanuel Prayer and have been practicing since 2000.

Languages: in addition to English, I have studied French, German, Koine Greek (very basic) and Biblical Hebrew, as well as some A.S.L (American Sign Language) and Spanish. I am only fluent in English.

I have graduated from the Spiritual Direction course at St. Benedict's Retreat and Conference Center (Shekinah). This is a two-year formation course.

Experience:

I have worked in church or para-church organizations a good part of my life, including 5 years in leadership at an ecumenical church and three years in a Personal Care Home in spiritual care.

I have practiced Spiritual Direction formally since 2012.

I have been on healing prayer teams since 1998 and have studied Formation for Healing Ministries (St. Ignatius), Theophostic (Ed Smith), and Immanuel Prayer (Karl & Charlotte Lehman).

I have participated in two different programs of the Iona Community in Scotland.

I have built labyrinths out of clay, bricks, rope, and in a hayfield.

I have taken workshops and courses in Celtic Spirituality and participated in a Celtic Spirituality Pilgrimage.

I have led weekend retreats on Celtic Spirituality, St. Brigid, prayer practices, Sabbath, Holistic Healing, silent retreats, developing a personal Rule of Life, and many others. See the "Retreats and Seminars" page for a longer list of topics.

I have led worship experiences for children and adults, for small groups and larger ones since the 1990s in various settings, including camps and churches, retreat centres, and homes, and over video conference platforms.

As a Spiritual Director, I see my own Spiritual Director and meet monthly with a Peer Supervision Group.

Books

I have read books on soul friendship, journalling, various kinds of prayer, healing ministry, active listening, emerging/emergent church, post-christendom, theology, spirituality, Church history, Celtic spirituality...

Personal

I have been married since 2006. I have had a pet turtle since 2001. I have done three terms of service with Mennonite Central Committee, I have lived in community, I grew up Mennonite, joined an ecumenical church as an adult, and married a Roman Catholic. I've lived in four countries on three continents and visited many others.
